Thomas McLauchlin was born and raised in Portsmouth VA. After completing correspondence school art courses while
in high school, he continued his studies when a scholarship allowed
him to attend the
College of William and Mary. He went on to further his studies at the
Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and later earned his Masters of Fine Arts
degree from As a commercial artist for advertising agencies and later as art director for a major advertising firm, his professional achievements included an astonishing 37 prestigious Addy Awards. He has held teaching posts as Professor of Art at St. Leo's University and Regent University in Virginia. His work has appeared as cover art for albums, posters, and book publications, one of which received a national design award. His paintings of young women and children are broad and direct, yet romanticism of a bygone era dominates his work. He and his wife currently reside in Chesapeake VA. |
