Captain Peter S. Labyak USN (Ret)
While having no formal art education, self-taught is also inaccurate. Painting for over 30 years, my work has evolved from an extensive collection of instructional material as well as interaction with numerous artists as I pursued a “passionate hobby”. Additionally, my travels as a 30 year navel officer, took me to literally very ocean, continent and state which enables me to truly feel any picture I encounter. The aforementioned have led to my total fascination with painting a wide variety of subjects from my obvious knowledge of the sea to landscapes and still life.
Photographs, which tie to my life experiences, enable me to capture scenes on canvas. The majority of my public works are miniature in nature, because I feel that there is a lack of such artwork available in most art shows and galleries; works that might permit more people to own original art and that would fit a wider variety of decorating needs. Therein lies the essence of my current work, to provide the public with affordable quality works that encompass a variety of subject matter.
