| Ron
Jensen paints full time at his studio in Hampton, VA. Using
an expressionistic style, he enjoys bright colors and semi-abstract
shapes. Most paintings are done in oils on toned, stretched canvas
using a limited palette. Oils are placed on canvas by using a wet-on-wet
technique, often without mixing the colors. He has painted for forty
years, beginning in North Dakota, where he painted through many winter
storms! Ron graduated from the University of North Dakota and continues
his art studies at Thomas Nelson Community College. Ron’s approach
to portrait painting is unique from that of other portrait painters,
in that he offsets the eyes levels to create a more elongated look,
which brings out the personality of the subject. His warped building
series show large buildings with few straight lines, often showing
the hidden third side, not common in most two dimensional work. One
of his biggest pleasures has been to work with young folks, he says
that “Big people just can’t draw like 3 to 5 year olds—their
work is unique.” Ron routinely exhibits his work at local museums
and galleries and has had several one-man shows. He currently shows
at Vincent Hester Gallery, Iris Studio, Riverview Gallery, Blue Skies,
Gallery on the York, Art Works in Richmond and his home studio by
appointment. Awards for his art includes the Williamsburg’s
New Century Gallery, Hampton Bay Day Show, TAA Portfolio, and Hampton
Art League Outdoor.
