Dorothy Hudgins, a Norfolk native, has been drawing and painting since childhood. She has studied with Retha Sedel, Norman Goodwin, Philip Sterk and Barclay Sheaks. In 1990, she retired as a registered nurse and moved to the Outer Banks for two years where she taught acrylics and was featured in the Outer Banks Magazine for her work. She has exhibited in galleries in North Carolina and Virginia and continues to teach workshops and students in her home studio. As a member of many art organizations, including Chesapeake Bay Art Association, Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists, and Tidewater Art Association, she has been the recipient of the Grumbacher Award as well as numerous other ribbons and awards. On describing
her work, Dorothy says, "I want each of my paintings
to create a mood. I spend a great deal of time observing, sketching
and photographing reference material to be original. I consider my
style to be relaxed realism." |
