Gene
Jones graduated from Duke University and studied art
at Dominion University and with leading American watercolorists. She finds
her greatest satisfaction painting on location, and has had the opportunity
to visit many countries in Europe, South America, the Orient as well as
many Caribbean and South Pacific islands, creating paintings on all of
her trips.
Her delicate nature is reflected in her light and airy style. She is
equally comfortable creating landscape or still life paintings. The last
few years Gene has enjoyed teaching watercolor painting to guests traveling
with the Cunard Cruise Lines to South America and on the millennium 107
day cruise around the world on the Queen Elizabeth 2.
Artist
Statement
" As
a child I found very early that I could loose myself in a world of
color
and design with paint and paper. That world has only grown more inviting
throughout the years. Now, not only do I find joy in painting but also
in sharing the continuous pleasure of discovery found in watercolor
in classes and in workshops that I teach."
"I
never tire of the sometimes frustrating, sometimes fulfilling effort
to capture
the palette of the marsh grasses, the reflections and sparkle and light
of the coastal waters, and the mystical aura of the tidal lands - all
constantly changing from season to season, even from hour to hour -
and literally at my own back door."
"Though
I enjoy the adventure of travel, I am always glad to return to Tidewater,
Virginia. For me, this land around the Bay is as beautiful as any region
in the world."
