Statement
Shortly after arriving in Portsmouth five years ago I discovered
the Visual Arts
Center in Olde Towne. Since that time I completed a series of photography
classes, studying both traditional and digital imaging techniques.
My method is to capture images of natural and man made objects. I
show the viewer only part of the subject, leaving the rest up to their
imagination. The images are processed digitally then printed on archival-matte
paper with 7-pigmented inks. The printing process results in deeply
saturated continuous-tone color prints, with longevity of 75-100 years.
The
Boats: (limited edition of 30)
Years ago, Cuban refuges came ashore in their tiny wooden boats at
the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. One can still see the remains of the
caribbean colors from the paint, wood, metal, and canvas on these
decaying vessels. I often wonder about the people who came in these
small boats.
The
Buoys: (limited edition of 30)
Guantanamo Bay, in its heyday, was a thriving ship repair facility
for the Atlantic fleet. The large buoys used to moor ships during
that era now lie abandoned on dry land. Each of my “surface” images
reflect the colorful palette of these rusty objects.
The Lighthouses:
Symbolic of life and history along the Eastern Seaboard, these sentinels
of the Atlantic remain a favorite photographic subject. I have chosen
to limit the viewer to a small part of each tower while leaving the
rest to the imagination.
